5 Things to know about the PTE Exam dates

Booking PTE exam dates is an easy enough task. You just need to go to the Pearson PTE exam website, select your country and then pick one from the available slots.

However, is there something more to it? Can your selection of PTE exam dates effect your overall result?

The answer is yes and no!

It’s no if you think simply selecting the “right exam date” will alter your results drastically. Let us first give you reasons why you should not worry about the exam date. Then we will tell you what you take care of while selecting your exam date.

The exam content doesn’t vary by the date. You might hear from people that exams in the end of the month or on certain days of the week are easier than others. This is entirely nonsense. The exam content is same at any given time. PTE Academic draws its questions for the exam from a common questions pool. The exam contents change only when this questions pool changes. This can happen any time but not too often. This certainly doesn’t correlate to any particular date or time of month or year.

Some people think that selecting a PTE exam appointment at one center than other might give different results. Again, this has nothing to do with Pearson as such. Exam contents are the same in all the centres, in all countries. A particular center might be better or worse than the other, but only because of its own local characteristics such as the infrastructure at that center, the invigilators at that center and the kind of crowd that sits in an exam session. All of these factors have nothing to do with Pearson as such.

Now those are the reasons why you shouldn’t worry too much about selecting the right date and time for your exam.

But there are some reasons why an exam date is important.

Appointments at the start of the day or the end of the end are usually more crowded. Invigilators are tired by the end of the day and can be unnecessarily strict at the start of the day. So, if you pick an exam time which is in the middle of the day, your chances of getting the right environment for the exam improves. In the middle of the day you will not be too tired, and would get enough time early in the date to relax yourself, get a good breakfast, and arrive at the exam center without any hurry.

You should also try to avoid exam dates which fall around public holidays. The number of exam takers is usually higher at this time. This can sometimes result in a higher load on the PTE exam software which might delay the processing of your result. Your chances of finding a crowded exam center also are higher on such dates. Instead why not go for your exam on a more relaxed day?
Is it worth booking an exam in a center which is away from you, if you get a better date? If you must take exam on a particular date and the only appointment available is in a center away from your home, then you have no other option. For all other cases we recommend you book into the center closest to your home. Why tire yourself unnecessarily? Commuting is not worth it at all.

All said and done, book the appointment most convenient for you, but do keep these simple suggestions in your mind. It is ultimately your preparation which will make the difference, rather than anything else.
